  • Design Center at New Town hosts a celebration
The official launching of the Design Center at New Town took place on March 15, 2007 with a gala open house. Building owners and tenants Guernsey Tingle Architects, Howell Creative Group, TAM Consultants and newcomer First Market Bank's Financial Services Department welcomed about 200 guests.

“So many people have expressed interest in seeing our building,” said Kathy Howell, president of Howell Creative Group, “and we're pleased to have had this opportunity to show it to them.”

The invitees were treated to hors d'oeuvres and a tour of the building, which was decorated for the occasion with a number of original paintings by local artist Dorothy Fagan. Artwork representing Ms. Fagan's “Solstice to Equinox” theme benefits the Williamsburg Land Conservancy, and Conservancy representatives were on hand for the open house. Design Center hosts also greeted representatives of James City County, York County and the City of Williamsburg as well as a number of their New Town neighbors and many area business people.

Located at 4350 New Town Avenue, the Design Center at New Town was the first building to go up in Discovery Business Park. The two-story facility is a “Boutique Class A” office building; the design blends the quality construction, interior finishes and features of a multi-story office building with the identity and closeness of an individual, stand-alone facility. While corridors and stairways are carpeted, lobby areas on both floors sport grey-green slate tiles with black accents. Throughout the building's public spaces, honey-colored woodwork complements wall colors that favor natural hues: cream, beige and soft green. “We designed the building to let in a lot of light, and the color scheme works well with that idea,” said Guernsey Tingle Associate Dale Weiss. “Certainly kudos go to Dale for much of the building's design,” added the firm's president, Tom Tingle.

TAM is in Suite 203 and Howell in Suite 201 on the second floor, while Guernsey Tingle occupies Suite 101 on the first. The First Market Bank office is located next door to the architects in Suite 102.

Space is still available for one additional tenant on the second floor. At 1,630 square feet, this space can be built out to take best advantage of a dramatic, arched window. For Design Center at New Town leasing information, phone Bobby Singley at RJS & Associates, Inc., 229-3139.
